And don’t get me started on when one of the seven she is playing is pretending to play another one of the seven she is playing! It’s acting upon acting within acting-and it makes Monday a terrific if little-seen, success. Which is a shame because Monday is a fantastic, cult-in-the-making genre film that combines high concept science-fiction, subtle(ish) allegory, and intense drama, featuring current Netflix gun-for-hire Noomi Rapace (this is one of three Netflix Originals she has starred in at this point) playing not one or two roles, but seven. Even if these other films made particularly negative waves, *cough cough* Bright, it still made waves nonetheless. Seemingly lost in the myriad Netflix Original titles as you scroll through the menus looking for entertainment, What Happened To Monday is just as likely to be considered a Buried Treasure as more high-profile, heavier advertised original fare from the streaming behemoth has made bigger waves. What follows is a search for Monday by her sisters, missing in a society that must not find them out.Much like Who Framed Roger Rabbit before it, What Happened To Monday is not a question (hence the lack of the proper punctuation at the end) but more a statement of intent: this is what happened to Monday, so sit back and enjoy.

Frighteningly, Monday, as Karen, goes to work one day and doesn't come home. Keeping a low profile, they go undetected as part of their large unnamed city's workforce. Now 30 years old and on their own (each is portrayed by Noomi Rapace), "Monday," "Tuesday," "Wednesday," "Thursday," "Friday," "Saturday," and "Sunday" go out into the world as "Karen" Settman only on their namesake day of the week. Aided by new technologies and a remarkable mind, Settman has managed to keep all of the girls safe. Resourceful grandfather Terrence Settman ( Willem Dafoe) has raised his granddaughters in hiding, named them for the days of the week, schooled them in the art of survival, and prepared them for a life of isolation to save their lives. Under the auspices of CAB (Child Allocation Bureau), headed by scientist Nicolette Cayman ( Glenn Close), all other children were to be frozen to await a time in which the earth would be repaired and capable of supporting more life. They were born at a time when the earth was depleted of its resources and doomed by overpopulation, burgeoning multiple births, and mutations - and only one child was permitted per family. Toward the end of the 21st century, WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY? finds female septuplets in grave danger.
